Why it's worth coming to Nicaragua.
Unlike Costa Rica, Nicaragua is less developed for tourism. However, the geographical conditions of the two countries are absolutely comparable. The difference is that staying in Nicaragua will only cost you between 1/3 and 1/4 of what you would have to pay for Costa Rica.
Nicaragua is a country that, so far, fortunately, has freed itself from mass tourism. There are no luxury hotels on the beach or castles here. If you are looking for entertainment programs or rich breakfast buffets, you are in the wrong place. If, on the other hand, you are a nature lover, an adventurer and explorer, then a practically virgin nature with an impressive fauna and flora awaits you, volcanoes that cross the country from north to south, virgin jungle areas, lagoons and magnificent cities like Granada, León or Massaya. Several of my students have already visited me and were so impressed that they want to come back. I had a little more time available for one of these students. We conquered the famous volcanic island of Ometepe by motorbike, which is a short distance (5 km) from my house (the ferry crossing takes about 45 minutes). The island of Ometepe is administratively part of the city of Rivas and is located in the vast Lake Nicaragua, one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in Latin America. It is exactly 29 km to the Pacific Ocean with its dream beaches, but you should plan a travel time of 45 minutes by car. If you are attracted by the combination of sea and city, then San Juan del Sur is the place for you. You can get there in 30 minutes from the house and you can park right next to the sea (for free, of course!). I spent a total of 3 months there, so I can give you a tip or two. It is especially recommended to visit the Statue of Christ (Christo de la Misericordia) overlooking the city. The beaches near the city are considered a Mecca for surfers who come from far away to the Pacific coast. This means that I can prepare a pleasant and unforgettable stay program for you, according to your wishes and needs, and offer you good deals and affordable accommodation options. One thing is for sure: you will be surprised. The ideal travel option is the dry season between December and May. The rainy season is also possible with restrictions. Temperatures vary throughout the year between 24 and 32 ° C, that is, they are tropically hot. Knowledge of Spanish is a great advantage.
